Let us introduce ourselves
I am kalpana Jaswa. I was born in Mumbai (then Bombay) India in a forward-thinking Gujarati family. My father and his side of the family were foodie and I took after him.
I went on to do a Bachelor’s in Home Science from Bombay University which was offered through Nirmala Niketan- a leading school in Home Economics. I then proceeded to do a post Graduate Diploma in Nutrition from the famous Catering College – Dadar Mumbai.
As a career I worked as a Dietitian in KEM Hospital and in private practice with cardiologist M K Gandhi in Vile Parla West.
After marriage I came to the United States. Jobs as a dietitian educated in India were very few. There was also a pressure to be in the computer field in Silicon Valley. I went on to get a Masters in Computer Science- worked as a software engineer for a few years and then quit to raise the family.
To make the long story short, since my children moved out, I decided to go back to my passion-Cooking and Nutrition.
I have been interested in cooking since I was a little girl. I started to teach cooking classes in my home area in California. There are a lot of people who liked my classes and my recipes. This led me to decide to write a blog.
